WATSONIANS have added former Currie Chieftains scrum-half Gregor Christie and Australian stand-off James Dalgleish to their squad ahead of the ‘Super6 Sprint’ series which kicks off at the end of October.
Christie was born and spent the first eight years of his life in Scotland before his family moved to New Zealand. He returned to Scotland briefly in 2018 to play a couple of months with Chieftains, then made a longer-term move last summer when he became a key member of the Chieftains side which reached the Premiership play-offs before the COVID-19 lockdown led to the season being declared null-and-void. The 26-year-old was also capped by the Scotland Club XV last season and is the older brother of Auckland Blues scrum-half Finlay Christie.
Dalgleish, who can also play centre or full-back, arrives at Myreside after a period of training with Edinburgh Rugby. The 25-year-old previously played six seasons for the University of Queensland and has three Scottish grandparents.

“We are excited to have added Gregor to our squad, he played very well for Currie last year and for the Scotland Club XV against Ireland,” said Watsonians head coach Fergus Pringle.
“We wanted to build some strength in depth at scrum-half which is a key position and we feel Gregor is a good fit for us. He’s been training well and looks a tough, hard-working player – we are looking forward to seeing how he goes.”
“James is a great addition to our squad and will bring good experience and quality to our already established back division,” added Pringle.
“He has a well balanced running and kicking game that we think will suit the way we play. We want to keep progressing as a squad and developing competition in key positions.”
