EDINBURGH have been boosted by the availability of two more World Cup returnees in the shape of Duhan van der Merwe and Pierre Schoeman for tomorrow [Saturday] afternoon’s trip to Dublin to take on Leinster (kick-off 3.05pm), with teenage academy prospect Hector Patterson – who came through the ranks at Jed-Forest then Hawick and is the son of former Scotland scrum-half Derrick Patterson – set for his pro debut off the bench.

Club co-captain Ben Vellacott is missing for “personal reasons” so Charlie Shiel starts in the No 9 jersey, while James Lang is also on the bench after missing the first two games of the campaign with a calf injury,

Tom Dodd makes his second appearance for the club at blindside flanker, with Luke Crosbie shifting to No 8 in place of the injured Viliame Mata.

“Leinster are a quality side and a team we have a lot of respect for from 1 to 23,” said ‘senior coach’ Sean Everitt, who is hoping to see his team make it three from three at the start of this URC campaign. “We do however travel to Dublin with a lot of confidence after two hard-fought wins to start the season, and we can take a lot of positives from the resilience we’ve shown in closing out both victories.

“We’re delighted to welcome back both Pierre and Duhan to the squad. They are quality players with a lot of experience at the very top. They’ve trained really hard this week and are both excited to represent the club once again this weekend.”
