A NEW book by celebrated rugby author Peter Burns and award-winning journalist, author and playwright Rob Robertson is being published in October to celebrate 100 years of action at Murrayfield ahead of the stadium’s centenary in 2025.

‘This is Murrayfield’, a fully-illustrated coffee-table hardback book, tells the story of the grand old stadium through the lens of 100 different matches played on its hallowed turf – from the Grand Slam-clinching victory over England that marked its opening in 1925 to the trouncing of the same opposition in 2024, meandering its way through the century by ways of famous Test victories, draws and defeats, with memorable stop-offs for some special club matches, the brief incarnation of the Scottish Claymores and the first women’s Test played at Murrayfield.

Like all the best sports books, ‘This is Murrayfield’ is not just about the action on the pitch; it’s about the characters on both sides, about hope and despair, friendship and enmity, and the myriad relationships, memories and experiences that have orbited that famous stretch of grass.

The authors have interviewed dozens of former and current players and coaches about their experiences – not just from Scotland, but also among the opposition – to paint a vivid, absorbing, regularly hilarious and often spine-tingling account.

‘This is Murrayfield: 100 Years of History in 100 Matches’ by Peter Burns and Rob Robertson will be published by Polaris (£25).

Ahead of publication, Polaris have opened up a number of options for readers to become part of the book.
