GRAHAM SHIEL has added nine new faces to his Boroughmuir Bears squad ahead of the start of the 2021 Super6 season, which kicks off for the Meggetland man with a home tie against Heriot’s this coming Friday night [kick-off is at 7.30pm].

Former Scotland, Edinburgh and Scotland 7s man Tom Brown will add experience to the back-three, while Kaleem Barreto – who has also played Scotland 7s – will compete with Kyle McGhie for the No9 jersey.

Former Scotland Under-20s prop Ross Dunbar has returned from Scottish Rugby’s French partnership club Stade Niçois, hooker Finlay Scott – originally from Jedburgh – has made the switch from Southern Knights, second-row Jack Fisher makes the step up to Super6 from Preston Lodge, and No8 Trystan Andrews has moved west from Glasgow Hawks where he will compete for game time against the returning Rory Drummond.

Former University of Bath stand-off Tom Pittman and former Edinburgh Accies back-three player Callum Ramm are the other new faces.

Prop Dan Winning and back-row Craig Keddie will co-captain the side.

“All of the Boroughmuir Bears players have relished the opportunity to get back to training and with round one of the competitive games next up, everyone is excited to be able to return to something like normality,” said head coach Shiel.

“We have managed to retain the bulk of the squad from 2019-2020along with adding nine new players. The new players that have joined us have fitted into the squad seamlessly. To have players with high-performance environment experience like Tom Brown and Kaleem Barreto brings a level of professionalism that other players can learn from and help to create a more professional environment for all of the squad to enjoy.

“We’re delighted to be once again hosting the opening game of the tournament. To have Heriot’s come to us for an Edinburgh derby on a Friday night in July will make for a great game for the players and spectators.”
