WATSONIANS have lost experienced props Steven Longwell and Matias Sonzogni Argiro for the remainder of their push for the Super6 title, with the pair having taken the opportunity to sign professional deals with immediate effect.
Longwell, who trained with Watsonians Rugby last summer before a stint with Old Glory DC in the MLR in America, and who scored tries against Boroughmuir Bears, Heriot’s and the Southern Knights in the first half of the Super6 season, has joined Jersey Reds in the English Championship. The former West of Scotland, Dundee High and Ayr tight-head will be on the bench for the Reds in their league opener against London Scottish on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Argiro, who is initially from Argentina and joined the Myreside outfit in the summer following a couple of season playing Premiership rugby with Currie Chieftains, is off to Rugby Club du Bassin D’Arcachon near Bordeaux who play in French Fédérale 1.

Super6 round six: TOL team-of-the-week
Heavy loss leaves Scotland’s World Cup qualification hopes hanging by a thread
Watsonians have called up Nathan Borel, who was a member of their Super6 squad last season, as emergency cover. Academy player Cole Lamberton is also now available. However, there is no escaping the fact that the loss of this experienced duo – both big characters in the squad – is another major setback following the season-ending injury suffered by captain Lee Millar in round two of the competition.
“Super6 is there to bridge the gap to the pro game and create opportunities for aspiring professional players,” said head coach Fergus Pringle.
“Stevie has done really well for us since joining from Old Glory DC. While he’ll be a big loss for us for the rest of campaign, we felt it was the right thing to support this move to Jersey Reds for various reasons.
“Hopefully he goes and does really well down there and returns to Scotland an even better player in future.
“We wish Matias all the best with this opportunity of a full-time contract in France. He has worked hard and contributed really well to our campaign and he goes with our best wishes to make a success of this new opportunity.”

Watsonians could do a lot worse than look west for prop cover and sign up Gordie Reid. He’s been on great form for Marr and still has it in him to play in super 6 at a good level.
“… called up Nathan Borel”
anyone know who Nathan was playing for before this call-up?
(ie. who has now lost a prop?)
Thanks
Mike, the last I heard Nathan was in Watsonians club XV
