THE competition at No 8 was ferocious this week with Ruairidh Leishman, who had 100 involvements and some crucial line-out steals in a man-of-the-match performance as Heriot’s held champions Watsonians to a draw at Goldenacre, just edging out Benedict Grant of Stirling Wolves, who can consider himself desperately unlucky after also registering 100 involvements.

Scotland Under-20s hooker Jerry Blyth-Lafferty‘s all-action performance as an openside flanker, topped by a fine solo try, took some beating, but Connor Gordon‘s heroics for Wolves with 31 tackles, including six in a vital defensive set just before half-time, got him the nod.

Meanwhile, Seb Cecil of Watsonians edges out opposite number Charlie Jupp of Heriot’s and Allan Ferrie of Southern Knights and blindside flanker.

The second-row is populated by Jack Fisher, who was man-of-the-match as Boroughmuir Bears bagged their first win of the season over previously high-flying Ayrshire Bulls, alongside Rory Jackson of Bulls.

In the front-row, Iain Carmichael fronted up for Boroughmuir Bears against Ayrshire Bulls’ highly-rated pack with 12 carries, 100 percent tackle su access and 100 percent ruck success, so is selected at loose-head ahead of Southern Knights’ Jack Dobie, while Michael Liness played well at hooker for Heriot’s in 32nd consecutive Super6/Series match, and tight-head prop Dan Gamble was praised by Edinburgh A coach Rob Chrystie for his performance in his last appearance in the capital clubs’ colours against Southern Knights.

In the backline, Cam Jones scored an excellent, opportunist interception try as Edinburgh blew Knights away during the first half at the Greenyarrds, while Ross Jones had two try assists for Heriot’s versus Watsonians and is selected just ahead of Scotland under-20s man Andy McLean of Boroughmuir Bears.

Marcus Holden‘s 19-point haul in a man-of-the-match sees him selected at inside-centre, with the hard-running and tough-tackling Kerr Johnston of Boroughmuir Bears just outside him.

Korie Winters was excellent for an hour for Wolves against Glasgow Warriors A, with his pace and well-timed pass sending Kyle McGhie in for a try, before he suffered a nasty leg break which is likely to keep the Scots qualified Kiwi winger sidelined for the foreseeable. Ross McKnight also showed up well on the left wing with a couple of powerful carries.

Aidan Cross of Southern Knights gets the nod on the opposite touchline, while Dom Coetzer is at full-back.
