George Paul pulled the strings as Bears despatched Southern Knights with a strong second half at Meggetland, and his half-ball partner is Kyle McGhie, who scored a brace and didn’t give any quarter in that horrible mismatch between Wolves and the Future XV at Bridgehaugh.
Up front, Craig Millar fronted up in the set-piece on his first start of the campaign for Bulls against Heriot’s, and although he picked up a yellow-card for a high tackle, he dragged himself off the bench for the final 10 minutes as injury-cover, so he joins team-mate Andrew Nimmo – in for the third consecutive week – as the two props. Reyner Kennedy also scored a hat-trick for Wolves – perhaps the easiest he will ever score – but misses out to Corbin Thunder of Southern Knights.
Hamish Ferguson‘s contribution in Stirling’s dominant line-out maul earns him selection in the middle-row of the scrum, alongside the hard-working Jack Fisher of Boroughmuir Bears.
It could very easily have been an all Bulls back-row, but Ryan Sweeney misses out at blindside on this occasion to opposite number Ben Smith, who fronted up on a fairly miserable Friday evening at Millbrae for Heriot’s. Openside flanker Lewis McNamara and No 8 Blair Macpherson do, however, make the cut, meaning there is no room for the hard-carrying Harry Borthwick of Southern Knights.
