KENNY MURRAY has made four changes to the Scotland Under-20s starting XV ahead of the age-grade side’s final Summer Series pool match against Georgia in Treviso tomorrow afternoon  [kick-off 4pm]. Both teams are looking to pick up their first win of the campaign after defeats to Italy and Wales.

In the pack, Gregor Hiddleston comes in at hooker for the benched Patrick Harrison, while fit again Tim Brown starts at openside flanker in place of the also benched Ollie Leatherbarrow in a reshuffled back-row.

Behind the scrum, Christian Townsend returns at stand-off in place of Euan Cunningham, while Keiran Clark returns at full-back with Gabe Jones switching to the wing and Ross McMichael dropping to the bench.

Five takeaways from Saturday’s Summer Tour matches

“There have been positives in both the games so far, and we want to take that one step further by putting in a performance for the full 80 minutes,” said head coach Murray.

“We were still in the Italy game with 15 minutes to go before it got away from us, and we know we will have to be competitive from start to finish to get the win against Georgia.

“There is a good mix of experience and newer faces in this squad, and we hope that they can put in the performance we know they are capable of.”

  1. The whole point of under 20s is possibly development????

Surely then there are more boys worthy of a shot , for instance in the back 5 there are 4 out of 5 who have started every game and, correct me if I am wrong, but none of the said 4 have set the heather on fire – in fact mostly disappointing to say the least. What message is this saying to the other squad members?
What has happened to Matt D who was a nailed down start in 6 nations? None of the other back 5 boys have had a sniff, the young lad Brown who is the same age as Liam Mc ( Liam has huge potential however is he the real deal yet ) not given a chance. Poor Jake Spurway. He must have splinters ,

What’s the point of bringing in a SQ lad from SA and not giving him a chance? 10 minutes here and there achieves absolutely nothing , in fact the coach openly criticised him. Last time I checked these are young lads starting out and need development and support and in the modern world that’s a form of bullying. The same goes for poor kerr Johnstone who according to gala people has been exposed to early and being played in a position he has little if no experience , a proper prospect is kerr however 3 games in the bounce Really !!!

The stubborn mentally of the 3 coaches beggars belief , hears hopping at the 8 ( much more for shade ) attempt they get it correct after all is only Georga !!!!

  2. This selection again highlights why Scottish age grade rugby is so wrong. You are taking out a group of players to gain exposure but persist with players that have already had such a number of opportunities. After 6/7 games this year you surely have a decent idea about what these individual players are like so why not give others the same opportunity. Townsend in particular had nearly all game time in 6 nations earlier in the year so why again is he afforded so much time in this current competition? It’s easy to see why we have such a small player pool when we see closed shop selections like this in action.
It’s curious why the same ruthlessness applied to certain players at test level doesn’t apply at 20’s.
Kerr Johnston on the wing , whilst I accept still young , was also badly exposed in most aspects of wing play at this level particularly in the last game against Italy , it is dumbfounding that he has played nearly all the game time , surely there must be other players deserving of an opportunity to start ? These are clearly project players where the normal rules don’t apply …. all wrong in my opinion.

    • Somebody high up must be calling the shots .
Clearly you get in this team not for your ability but by other means .
      Farcical ..

      Give others a chance please

  3. Townsend ‘s back starting …..why ?
Can someone explain what Cunningham did wrong to be demoted to bench.

Surely there must be other guys deserving to be given a chance .
But that’s what stinks with how Scottish rugby is run ….once you’re in you’re in easy street .you can’t get out .
Regardless if you’re Shiite or not

    • Hooker Harrison was a revelation .but he’s dropped to bench .
Cmon Coaches do your job .
If you play well you’re in .if you don’t you’re out .

      Totally agree with you’re comment

  4. I wonder how many of the Georgian squad are already in a T14 espoirs team?
The Lyon winger, who played for the Barbarians , Niniashvili,is 21, so at least he won’t be playing!

  5. Good luck to the lads they will need to put in a hard shift for the full 80 and some of the U20 lads in the Georgia pack do make you wonder if they are pedantic about birth dates over there, some of them look as if their parents forgot to bother recording the birth on time.
