IT has been over 40 years since Andy Cameron released “Ally’s Army” to mark Scotland’s appearance at the 1978 football World Cup. Now a group of Scottish rugby fans are hoping their self-penned song will inspire the national rugby team in the same way Andy Cameron inspired a nation back in ‘78.
‘The Scottish Rugby Bloggers’ are releasing their unofficial World Cup song, “We’ll Still Enjoy The Sake”, in time for Scotland’s warm up games with all proceeds going to Doddie Weir’s My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
“It’s been well over 20 years since the football team qualified for a major tournament and we felt like the Scottish public had been starved of an anthem to mark a major sporting occasion such as this,” said lead singer Cammy Black.

“We’ve based the song on the classic nursery rhyme ‘Ye Cannae Shove Yer Granny Off A Bus’ which has been a firm favourite of Scottish rugby fans when telling the English where to park their chariots.”
The song is being released on Monday 12th August as part of a ‘mini-album’ with clean and explicit edits of the song, some dance remixes and a country tinged tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest ever broadcasters, Dougie Donnelly.
“Dougie is a huge favourite with our listeners and a cult figure amongst Scottish sport fans in general,” said Black. “We also know he’s a huge Scotland and Glasgow Warriors fan and wanted to pay our own tribute to him”.
“We also wanted to find a fun way of raising money for Doddie’s charity,” added Black. “Doddie made his Scotland debut around the time we were all first getting into rugby as youngsters and like many others played a huge role in cementing our love for the sport”.
The album is available for download via the Bandcamp website and will be priced at £4 with the option to pay more. All money raised between now at 31st December 2019 will go to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
