WINGER Annabel Sergeant and lock Siobhan Cattigan have been called into the Scotland squad as replacements for the injured Liz Musgrove and Sarah Bonar respectively. The Heriot’s back and the Stirling County forward will join the squad as they head to South Africa this week for a double-header against the hosts.
“I am really disappointed that we are not able to take Sarah and Liz with us to South Africa,” head coach Philip Doyle said. “Both of them would have been massive assets to the squad and I wish them all the best in their recovery.
“This opening in the squad has allowed two other players to come in who have been training really well with the extended squad in our training camps. I am happy that they are getting the opportunity to come to South Africa and I am hopeful that I will get the opportunity to see what Sarah and Liz can bring to the team later in the season.”
Doyle has included several inexperienced players in the squad for his first matches in charge since taking over from Shade Munro earlier in the year. Those omitted include former captain Lisa Martin, who scored ten points yesterday on her debut for Saracens in their league win against Bristol Bears.
Both games against the South Africans take place in Athlone, a suburb of Cape Town. The first is next Monday, 30 September, and kicks off at 4pm British time. The second Test is five days later at 2pm, and both games will be streamed on the Scottish Rugby website. Scotland then have two November Tests at Scotstoun, against Wales on the 17th then against Japan on the 24th.
