SCOTLAND A will play Chile in the first match of the national team’s summer tour, ahead of the three-Test series in Argentina.
The match will take place on Saturday 25th June, kicking-off at 9pm (UK time) at the Estadio Santa Laura Universidad SEK in the Chilean capital of Santiago. Broadcast details are still to be confirmed for a game that will see Chile and Scotland play each other for the first time.
Chile will use the match as preparation for their Rugby World Cup play-offs against USA after beating Canada last year in an Americas qualifying match.

“Scotland A will play the first match of our summer tour, against Chile, which will be a new challenge against a rugby nation on the rise – one that is on the verge of qualifying for the World Cup,” said national team head coach Gregor Townsend.
“Similar to the Tonga match last Autumn at BT Murrayfield, we will look to use a blend of youth and experience to start off the tour on a positive note. With the World Cup just around the corner, the four matches this summer will allow our players the chance to gain more game time and experience on the international stage.
“We always enjoy connecting with other countries and we are proud to be able to play Chile for the first time. It’ll also allow us another week to acclimatise to similar conditions that we’ll experience in Argentina such as playing at altitude and in a different time zone.

Is Henry Arundell not selected for England’s summer tour ?
It’s meant to be an A squad and so a few of AG’s team are established internationals. Where are the up and coming front rowers – we seem very short in this area. Who will be playing in 5 years time? Once the current group are past it. Less than 5 for some. We hardly have any home grown props with Edinburgh almost wholly SA origin props.
Good on Scotland for being the first home nation to play Chile. Innovative and to be commended. As to selection, that’s guesswork at the moment given injuries and walking wounded. Just hope Gregor shows some imagination by selecting players with imagination.

I have a policy of not picking players who are switching clubs over the summer, i think it is better for them to get a good preseason and cement themselves in the team.
So for me, it would be between Glen Young, or Alex Craig

Townsend can be accused of a lot of things but surely not not giving opportunities to the young guys. In the last year, Rufus Mclean, Ewan Ashman, Rory Darge and Cam Redpath have all started or come off the bench in big games aged 21 in place of more established options.
Hastings, Kinghorn, Graham, Ritchie, Cummings, Matt Fagerson all did in the past as well.
Pretty good team but Arundell unlikely. Give GG a rest. No place for Berghan and Kebble, already known. Likewise Turner and Schoeman.
