JAMIE RITCHIE will travel to Japan tomorrow (Thursday) to join up with the Scotland training squad as they prepare for World Cup kick-off against Ireland on 22nd September.

It is a good sign but the flanker does not appear to have been given the final all-clear to take part in the tournament yet, with stand-in Magnus Bradbury staying with the group as “precautionary injury cover”.

The Edinburgh forward, who was part of the initial 31-man squad named by head coach Gregor Townsend for the tournament, sustained a facial injury in the national team’s final warm-up match against Georgia at Murrayfield last weekend and remained home for further specialist assessment.
