CHARLIE BRETT’S willingness to attack from the back and invariably make ground sees the Currie Chieftains man selected just ahead of GHA’s Luca Bardelli at full-back. His Malleny club-mate, the powerful running Cammy Meager, was equally dangerous on the left wing and scored a try so edges out fellow try-scorer Robbie Shirra Gibb of Jed and two-try Craig Robertson of Heriot’s Blues, while Mason Cullen of Jed-Forest gets the nod on the right wing.
Hawick hat-trick hero Andrew Mitchell is selected at outside-centre ahead of Bobby Kay of Heriot’s, while Brendan McGroarty of Glasgow Hawks is named ahead Currie Chieftain DJ Innes and Rory Marshall of Jed-Forest at inside-centre.
Dom Martin was a steady hand at stand-off as Heriot’s caused a shock at Raeburn place, and his half-back partner Graham Wilson is unlucky to miss out at scrum-half to George Baird, who played the crucial role in swinging the game in his team’s favour as GHA got the better of Musselburgh at Stoneyhill.
In the pack, Craig Owenson showed up well on another disappointing day for Musselburgh at home to GHA so is at loose-head ahead of the reliably impressive Shawn Muir of Hawick and Andrew Acton of Marr; Finlay Scott was a dynamic force in the right and loose for Jed-Forest against Marr and even kicked the goals, so gets in at hooker ahead of Danny Dineen of Heriot’s and Ross Graham of Hawick; while Clem Lacour‘s two tries for Accies means he is at tight-head in front of Glasgow Hawk Gary Strain.
It was a tight call in the second-row with Shaun Fairbairn of Hawick, James Head of Selkirk and Clark Skeldon of Jed-Forest all flying the flag for the Borders – but in the end Adam Kerr of GHA and Sean Johnstone of Heriot’s Blues edged it.
In the back-row, Charlie Jupp was a stand-out for Heriot’s so edges out the reliably rugged Mike Vernel of Currie Chieftains and Cameron Young of Marr at blindside flanker, his Goldenacre buddy Innes Hill is just ahead of GHA’s Dario Ewing at openside, and Jae Linton of Hawick once again commands the No 8 jersey.
