EDINBURGH have confirmed that tight-head props Pietro Ceccarelli and Jack Stanley are to leave the club. Italian international Ceccarelli will move to CA Brive in France next season, while Stanley – who was on a partnership deal with Super 6 team Watsonians – has joined English Premiership side, Gloucester.
28-year-old Ceccarelli joined the club from Oyonnax in the summer of 2018 and has been a useful back-up player to Scotland internationals WP Nel and Simon Berghan, playing 24 matches in total for the club so far, including 14 matches this season.
23-year-old Stanley joined Edinburgh on trial at the beginning of the 2018-19 campaign having previously been enrolled in the Exeter Chiefs Academy. The former England Under-20s man saw game time at capital side Watsonians and extended his contract, in partnership with the Super6 club, for a further year at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, but has been out most of this season with a shoulder injury.
“It’s been well documented that we’ve had some injuries in the front row this season, especially at tight head, with Ruan Dreyer and Jamal Ford-Robinson both ruled out at times,” said Gloucester Director of Rugby David Humphreys.
“As a young English tighthead, Jack will give us some strength in depth at prop for the rest of this season but more importantly, for the long-term future. He’s still a very young player who has worked with Peter Walton in the past, and we’re all looking forward to seeing Jack fulfil his potential at Gloucester Rugby.”
