NEWLY promoted French Top 14 side Oyannax have announced the signing of Domingo Miotti – the Argentinean stand-off who had played for Glasgow Warriors since 2021 and who signed a contract extension (for an unspecified period of time) at Scotstoun as recently as the end of June – for next season.
Miotti has played 20 times for the the club over two years, sitting behind breakthrough star Tom Jordan in last season’s No 10 pecking order.
The other stand-offs currently on the Scotstoun books are veteran Duncan Weir and Ross Thompson, who had a brilliant breakthrough 2021-22 season but struggled with a series of injuries during the 2022-23 campaign. Warriors have indicated that they don’t plan to bring anyone else in before the start of next season.

Although his game time at Warriors has been limited, the 10-times capped Puma has shown his playmaking ability in impressive flashes, notably when scoring 18 of his points in an impressive 38-25 win over Munster back in March.
“Certainly, with Domingo, he has been training the house down all year, but he’s just not been able to catch a break,” said assistant coach Peter Murchie after that game. “He’s been going to get a chance then got ill in the week or had a tweak, so it has not just happened for him up to this point. But he did well at the weekend and that’s based on what he’s been in training, when he’s been absolutely carving it up.
“He got his reward for his work when we had the ball, but defensively he was outstanding as well. He’s come on leaps and bounds in that area.”
It seems that Oyannax and not Glasgow Warriors are going to reap the benefits of that progress.

I assume Oyannax paid to get him out of the contract which gives the club more money to invest in players – was sad to see Sam Johnson leaving – looking like a good first XV but worried about back up and what will happen when the inevitable injuries occur. Also who are we left with during games in the international windows? Who knows maybe the Georgian 10 will be brilliant and out of contract when they visit so we can snap him up and move him to Glasgow!! (just joking)
Good luck to him. But a bit odd from Glasgow POV with him having signed contract for next season. Presume it means another 10 might be incoming to Glasgow? Duncy Weir probably not going to play much, so leaves us tight with just Jordan and Thompson, and with Sam Johnson not having been replaced at 12 Jordan might need to cover there at times too…
Hopefully a few things still to be announced, and not all about signings, but does feel like Glasgow might start season weaker overall than they finished last – which is a bit disappointing as feels like the time to invest and kick-on from a good season to become genuine contenders.
Thomo and Jordan definitely have potential, but are realistically probably 4th and 5th choice for Scotland at best at moment – difficult to see us kicking on to get to a URC final without at least one real international 10.
So looking forward to seeing young Ross Thompson get back on the horse. It must have been gutting for him to miss an entire year in the season before the World Cup, during which he missed the chance to play in a European final.
Agree. Really didn’t think he had much about him at u20, but different beast at Pro level. Needs to be given as much game time as possible. Technically sound but also has the ability to think outside the box. Hoping he gets to spend time in squads alongside Finn because RT looks the next most complete 10 available and will hopefully be the next cab off the rank. Just needs to stay clear of injuries.
