MELROSE’S 7S FESTIVAL has been postponed due to the Covid pandemic for the second year in a row. It is hoped that the event, which was due to take place between the 8th and 11th April, can be re-arranged for later in the year.
“It will come as no shock that the Melrose 7s will not be going ahead in April this year due to ongoing health and safety concerns,” said a spokesperson for Melrose Rugby Ltd.
“We are looking at the possibility of alternative arrangements later in the year, but as I’m sure you will understand, we can’t confirm any dates or plans until there is clear government guidance and more certainty.

“We’re really disappointed, but there’s just no way we can safely host the event given the current restrictions.
“All tickets purchased for the cancelled 2020 Melrose 7s will, of course, remain valid for our return event.”
Three other clubs on the Spring sevens circuit – Langholm, Earlston and Kelso – have already announced the cancellation of their 2021 tournaments, while Berwick, Selkirk and Jed-Forest have yet to announce a decision on their tournaments.
A number of tournaments have been scheduled for later in the year, with Peebles 7s Festival on weekend 6th to 8th August, Hawick’s Festival Of Rugby on 13th and 14th August, and the Maroon’d@Gala Festival on 21st August.
Selkirk Rugby Club are hoping to organise a 15s tournament on Saturday 28th August involving eight teams.

Understandable decision. Hopefully gives us something to look forward to later this year.
Another great tradition put on hold. These are the things you look forward to. But for the greater good its wise.
