THE fragility of the process of getting club rugby back up and running has been brought into focus by news that Melrose have ceased all activities at The Greenyards while a risk assessment is carried out into a possible exposure to coronavirus.
A club statement said:
“We are aware that a person who was at the Greenyards on Tuesday 15 September has tested positive for Covid-19. The individual started to feel unwell overnight on 15 September, went for a test on 16 September, and received the result this morning (17 September). We respect the right to privacy therefore we will not confirm any personal details.
“Effective immediately, we have temporarily closed all facilities at the club and ceased all activity, including rugby training at other sites, while we carry out a full risk assessment. We will reassess the closure on Sunday evening. We have alerted Scottish Rugby to the situation and have also been in contact with all those people who may have come into contact with the individual. They understand their requirement to self-isolate at home for the next two weeks, in line with government guidance. We are ready to assist the NHS Track and Trace team with any information they might require.
“We wish the individual involved a speedy recovery.”

Neither Melrose RFC nor Southern Knights are in any partnership with Edinburgh Napier University.
Please get facts correct before making bold statements.
Very professional response. They of course have to be seen to do the right thing especially in current legislation and in fear of any possible (but unprovable) legal claim. This though is unsustainable and frankly ineffective vs an endemic often asymptomatic illness. For example who gets. latest if they have no symptoms A: No one. Provided ICU admissions and mortality remain almost non existent this will have to stop and it is clear from news reports, phone ins, social media an polling that public opinion has turned.
I’m surprised Nicola Sturgeon and Jason Leitch haven’t been in touch with you Ed.
Ms Sturgeon seems to think this weekend is a pivotal one and if we don’t get some measurable progress, further lockdown measures will be out in place.
Now she doesnt need to worry as EdC has spoken.
No death from Covid? Are you Donald Trump?
Worrying that Melrose and Napier college both have cases of corona virus .
Correct me if I’m wrong but are they both in partnership with super 6 Team
Melrose are in Super 6 Franchise partnership with Napier
Best wishes to all concerned.
Really tough stuff for Melrose and their players. Shows how fragile things are.
