GLOUCESTER centre Matt Scott and uncapped prop Murray McCallum have been called into the Scotland squad which convenes tonight (Sunday) ahead of a two day training camp in St Andrews.
Scott has been brought in as cover for Edinburgh centre Phil Burleigh, who injured his shoulder playing for his club in Friday’s pre-season friendly defeat to Sale Sharks.
The former Currie and Edinburgh centre, who has been capped 39 times by Scotland, was a surprise omission from the initial squad when it was named on Thursday, with Gregor Townsend explaining that the 26-year-old had been given a number of areas of his game that he needs to work on – he has now been given an earlier than expected opportunity to restate his international credentials.

McCallum replaces London Irish prop Gordon Reid, who sustained a concussion in his club’s pre-season fixture against Ealing Trailfinders, also on Friday. The 21-year-old signed his first professional contract with the capital outfit in March of this year, after impressing for the club when pressed into action whilst still on a BT Sport Academy contract.
Reid will remain in the care of his club.
