GLASGOW WARRIORS’ United Rugby Championship round six clash against the Emirates Lions, which was supposed to be played tomorrow [Saturday] afternoon, has been postponed due to a gastroenteritis infection in the Warriors squad. Ulster’s match against Cell C Sharks will also not go ahead when scheduled for the am reason.

“Due to gastroenteritis infections it is not possible for Ulster or Glasgow Warriors to field full playing squads,” said a statement issued by the league. “In order to ensure a duty of care towards the players involved and given the medical advice received from all key stakeholders, the United Rugby Championship has made the decision to postpone the fixtures.

  1. I just wonder what impact this “Bug” might have on Townsend’s team selection against Australia.
He will be without the 9 non Home based players anyway and with 16 of the remaining squad players being Warriors he could have difficulties.
Take scum-half as an example. White is not available and the other 2 No 9s Horne and Price might both have the lurgy. Vellacott whom I would imagine would be 4th choice is injured. This potentially leaves Townsend with a problem. Recall Pygros and have Sheil or Dobie (just recovered from injury) on the bench or call up Steele. Anybody having to play a top level, intense international match within days of a bad stomach bug is going to struggle. Not a recipe for success.

    • This is a really good point. If both Price and Horne are out, then Pyrgos starting with Sheil/Dobie on the bench. Can’t see any other options.

Had the game been within the window Charlie Chapman at Gloucester would’ve been my outside bet for an emergency call up, as backup to White. Scott Steele hasn’t played for Quins yet this season, not sure if injured or just fallen down the pecking order there.
