Under-18s teams to compete for The Jim Telfer Cup on Melrose Sevens weekend

Eight Border semi-junior/under18 teams will compete trophy on afternoon of Friday 7th April at the Greenyards

A NEWLY commissioned trophy for the Melrose Sevens Under-18 tournament, which will be competed for on the Friday before the main tournament (7th April) has been named after legendary former Lions, Scotland and Melrose player and coach Jim Telfer.

The tournament will feature eight Borders teams and be played on the main pitch at the Greenyards across the afternoon [which is the Good Friday bank holiday]. For more information click HERE.

The Jim Telfer Cup is being played alongside the 16-team ‘GoFibre Pre-Qualification Tournament’ – featuring Berwick, Biggar, Dumfries Saints, Duns, Durham University, Earlston, Langholm, North Berwick, Preston Lodge and Tynedale –  from which the winner will earn an invite to the 2024 main event plus a £1,000 prize pot.

“We are incredibly excited that the Wasps Tournament will take place on Melrose Sevens weekend,” said Melrose under-18s coach Jerry Brett. “As far as I know this is a first.

“Jim is not only a legend of Scottish rugby he was also coach of Melrose Wasps for several seasons and therefore we thought it fitting that we dedicate our new trophy to him. We are anticipating a large crowd and hopefully all the invited teams will put on a show that Jim will be proud of!”
