EDINBURGH second-row Jamie Hodgson has been called into Scotland’s Autumn training squad in place of his capital club-mate Sam Skinner, who broke a bone in is foot against Australia on Saturday and is expected to be out of action for several weeks.

Hodgson is unlikely to be promoted straight into the match-day squad to face Fiji on Saturday with Grant Gilchrist, Glen Young, Richie Gray (who is available again after completing his head injury return to play protocols) and Jonny Gray (who missed the Australia game as one of the English-based players not released because it was outside the international Test window) all ahead of him in the pecking order.

“It’s a foot injury,” said Scotland assistant coach John Dalziel. “There’s a little fracture in the bone caused by the tendon pulling. It probably looks like this campaign is over. We believe it’ll be four to six weeks to heal.”

Meanwhile, All Blacks stalwart Brodie Retallick will not be able to play against Scotland later in the Autumn Nations Series after being given a two-match ban for being sent off in his team’s win over Japan last Saturday. He will also miss this Saturday’s game against Wales.

  1. I think the change we need is at head coach level- I also know this opinion seems quite popular. GT should not have survived the Japan fiasco and we can do so much better. Bring back Stern Vern !

  2. Dear Fiji how about an exchange? We have an enthusiastic young coach that needs some further varied international experience. Great record and only one misguided owner,go on take him for a test run. Ps we’ll take your coach while he’s gone. Ok

  3. Good that big Ritche is coming back recovering from the injury of being “dead.. “ 🤣 typo.
Most people don’t come back from that. Hope he gets a start…

    • I’m fairly certain at this point this is a running gag of Mr.Barnes to leave a little error and see if people pick up on it Don.

    • I hope Ritchie does come into the team this week. According to Toonie, he’s in the form of his life. Toonie has a warped idea of what form means though.

      • Townsend is obviously not able to remember the great blossoming talent of 10 years ago. Where did it go wrong?
