JAMIE Dobie has been named in Glasgow Warriors’ starting line-up for tomorrow night’s PRO14 match against Dragons, the first time he will have begun a match for the team after six appearances off the bench. Previously an understudy to Nick Frisby when Ali Price and George Horne have been absent on Scotland duty, 18-year-old Dobie has impressed the Warriors coaches with his physicality and high tempo.

The scrum-half is one of six changes in personnel by Dave Rennie from the team that began last week’s 56-24 win over Zebre. Huw Jones and Ratu Tagive come into the back division after being released by Scotland, while in the pack there are returns for hooker Grant Stewart, lock Tim Swinson and co-captain Callum Gibbins. Tighthead prop Ewan Mcquillan, a short-term recruit from the Southern Knights, could make his debut off the bench.

“We’ve prepared well for this weekend,” head coach Dave Rennie said. “We know that it’s the stage in the season where internationals take precedence, but we’ve got great depth and it’s a chance for our boys to step up.

“I thought Jamie was really good off the bench last week. It’s a great opportunity for him – we think he’s got a big future and it’s a chance for him to show that from the start this time out.

“We want to build on the Zebre result – we scored eight tries last week, but we went to sleep for parts of that game. We want to gain control and build some pressure, as well as play with more intensity. We’ve trained with real intensity this week and we’re keen to show that tomorrow night.”
