GLASGOW WARRIORS have secured the services of back-rower Jack Dempsey on a contract extension believed to be for two further years beyond the end of this season.
The 28-year-old arrived at Scotstoun from his native Australia ahead of the 2021-22 campaign and has been an outstanding performer for Warriors during the last 18 months, with his form instrumental in helping push forward his team-mate and rival Matt Fagerson‘s game during that time.
After winning the last of his 14 caps for the Wallabies at the 2019 World Cup, he switched allegiance to Scotland last Autumn through World Rugby’s controversial three-year stand-down rule, and was involved in all five of the team’s recent Six Nations matches, culminating in the man-of-the-match award in the final round victory over Italy.

“I’m really pleased to finalise my future with the club,” he said. “Ever since I arrived, this has been a club with a massive amount of ambition and aspirations to play rugby in a particular way, as well as being successful. I’ve enjoyed being a part of it from minute one, especially this season – we’ve gone to another level this year and the competition within the squad is at an all-time high.
“It’s the right place for me to play my best rugby and I’m excited to see what we can achieve next. We’re moving into a crucial part of the schedule and as we move into knockout rugby, that’s what we as players dream of being involved in.
“Scotstoun is an electric atmosphere on the big occasions, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Head coach Franco Smith added: “Jack’s quality has been clear to see every time he pulls on a Glasgow Warriors jersey, and we’re pleased that he will be remaining with the club for the next couple of seasons.
“His ball-carrying is a real asset to the way we want to play and he’s passionate about playing his part for this club.
“He’s a fantastic athlete and it’s great to see his commitment to Glasgow day in, day out.”

Has been an excellent signing for Glasgow. After a slow start with Scotland …he just got better and better for Scotland in the 6N. Has basically taken the no8 spot form Fagerson…and Id doubt anyone could legitimately argue with that.
Tremendous news for Glasgow and Scotland, Dempsey is a brilliant 8 (and has Scottish blood despite his dalliance with Australia)
And yes I think the ruling allowing him to switch is bizarre but it is there…
A fabulous re-sign, from Day 1 he’s shown he is just the kind of player, with that added grit and determination, that we need. I think Australia, after RWC, will be sorry they let him go.
Great news!
