SCOTTISH RUGBY’S partner club Stade Nicois has announced that all four of the Scots on their books during the 2019-20 season are leaving the French third tier outfit .
Second-row Hamish Bain is said to be joining Glasgow Warriors after two years in Nice. The 22-year-old is a like-for-like replacement for Edinburgh-bound Andrew Davidson. He came to prominence playing for Currie Chieftains in the Scottish Premiership and played 10 games for Scotland Under-20s between 2016 and 2017.
Scrum-half Kaleem Barreto, another former Scotland Under-20s cap, who moved to France last summer, was linked with the Scotland sevens squad in the Stade Nicois announcement, but that has not been confirmed by the SRU.
Former Boroughmuir prop Ross Dunbar is also returning home after one year in the South of France, although it is not known at this stage where he will be playing his rugby next season.
Meanwhile, another ex-Boroughmuir man, Archie Erskine, also brings to an end a two year association with the club. The back-row did not play last season after picking up an injury in the final match of the previous campaign.
Edinburgh announce that work has re-commenced on ‘Mini-Murrayfield’
Hopefully Glasgow Warriors will confirm Hamish Bain’s signing soon. Surely time to give pro contracts to some of the Academy players like Ollie Smith and Ross Thompson who have performed very well for u20’s and Ayrshire Bulls, and have been training with Warriors for over a year. Time to develop Scottish talent and give them a chance to develop.
Hopefully Glasgow confirm Hamish Bains signing soon. Would also be good to see pro contracts to some of the Academy players like Ollie Smith and Ross Thompson who have performed very well for u20’s and Ayrshire Bulls, and have been training with Warriors for over a year. Time to give upcoming talent a chance.
Any news of replacement players going to Nice – great development opportunity for players (supposedly).
