Warriors back Facundo Cordero signs contract extension

GLASGOW back-three player Facundo Cordero has agreed a contract extension, believed to be for two years. The 24-year-old from Argentina joined the Warriors in March on a short-term deal that was due to expire at the end of the season, but a hamstring injury has so far prevented him from making his senior debut. He is now well down the road to recovery, however, and last month turned out for the club’s ‘A’ team against the Stirling Wolves in the Super Series Sprint.

“It was a straightforward decision for me to re-sign,” Cordero told the Warriors website. “The opportunity to stay here and play the style of rugby that Glasgow is known for was one I couldn’t pass up, and there’s a really good group of people at the club.

“I’m excited to come back stronger next season – picking up an injury just after I got here was frustrating, but I’m determined to show the coaches and the supporters what I can do and earn the chance to pull on the Glasgow jersey.

“Having a strong group of Argentinians here definitely helped me to settle in quicker, too. To see your friends every day means this doesn’t feel like a job, and all of the lads at Scotstoun really welcomed me with open arms from day one. I’m very grateful and very happy to be staying.”

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith said: “We’re pleased to be able to retain Facundo’s services ahead of next season. He’s someone who is keen to improve and eager to show the Warrior Nation what he can do on the field. We look forward to continuing to work with him ahead of the new season.”
