THE Edinburgh versus Glasgow Warriors clash at the DAM Health Stadium on Sunday 2nd January has gone the same way as the 1872 Cup first leg did last weekend by being postponed because of on-going Covid issues in the away camp.

The Dragons versus Cardiff Blues and Ulster versus Leinster matches on New Year’s Day have also been postponed.

“The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with the medical teams at Cardiff, Dragons, Glasgow Warriors, Ulster and their respective health authorities and deemed that these fixtures cannot go ahead as scheduled,” said a statement by the league’s organisers. “The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule these games.”

A statement from Glasgow Warriors said: “Glasgow Warriors continues to support its players that are isolating and are focused on mitigating any further risks to players and staff through its stringent COVID-19 protocols.”

  1. Thanks for the advice Iain
I am already doubly jabbed and boosted. I fully recognise the benefit the vaccine rollout has played in protecting the population. However, I realise I may have inadvertently given the impression that I am Henry Slade, but I am not!
I was trying to suggest that Omicron is looking highly likely to be far, far milder than Delta. Certainly if you examine the massive increase in cases in South Africa, Norway and Denmark and note that they not matched by a massive increase in hospitalizations and deaths.

  2. “when the Scottish government have stopped frightening the population”

    utterly ridiculous comment.

  3. Disappointing but totally expected. Certainly financially advantageous to play these games at a later date, when the Scottish government have stopped frightening the population.
