ROB HARLEY will become the first player to make 250 appearances for Glasgow Warriors after being named in an experienced side for tomorrow evening’s inter-city dead-rubber against Edinburgh at Murrayfield.

Adam Hastings returns from a facial injury and is deployed at full-back, while Matt Fagerson starts at No8 after recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered while playing for Scotland during the Six Nations.

Zander Fagerson and Ali Price, the two Lions in the Warriors squad, have been rested.

Head coach Danny Wilson has made nine changes in total. Tom Lambert will make his first start in professional rugby after being named at loose-head prop in place of the suspended Oli Kebble, joining George Turner and Enrique Pieretto in an all-new front-row.

Richie Gray is promoted from the bench to partner the history-making Harley in the second-row, with 2013 British and Irish Lion Gray having also started in the engine room for Harley’s debut against Leinster eleven years ago.

The back-row sees flanker Rory Darge also named in the starting XV for the first time since arriving at Scotstoun earlier this year, lining up alongside captain Ryan Wilson at blindside and Fagerson at No8.

George Horne takes over from Price at scrum-half, and partners Ross Thompson in the half-backs.

The three-quarter line is unchanged, with Hastings taking over from the injured Cole Forbes at full-back.

“Tomorrow is a special day for the club,” said head coach Danny Wilson. “We speak a lot about what it means to be a Warrior and Rob Harley is somebody that epitomises the Warrior mindset and lives our mantra whatever it takes.

“Rob is a model professional both on and off the pitch and everyone at the club is really looking forward to seeing him make history tomorrow evening.

“It was important for us win the 1872 Cup last week especially having been four years since it was last at Glasgow.

“Tomorrow’s game gives us an opportunity to get back to back wins against Edinburgh and look at a few different players and combinations.”

The only other player in Scottish professional rugby to have made 250 appearances for a club is Edinburgh prop Allan Jacobsen.

  1. Cap doffed to big Harley, 250 appearances is some going and all credit to him for that achievement

  2. I reckon that Tom Brown is only at Glasgow as a mole. Edinburgh sent him there to find out what they feed Big Bob Harley.

250 caps is a truly remarkable achievement. And with what he’s made of [a mixture of granite and tungsten] , he’ll probably achieve another 250!
