25 talking points from the 2022-23 season …

“Players pulling on their boots up and down the country is what makes our great game tick, so we’re delighted to unveil a new season ticket product that is truly ‘for the players’,” said Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, Douglas Struth.

“We want Edinburgh Rugby to be one of the most inclusive and welcoming clubs in the BKT URC, and to foster a culture of mutual support between the pro team and club rugby in our supporting regions.

“This ticketing initiative allows every registered club rugby player to watch Edinburgh Rugby at a reduced cost, with a season ticket reasonably priced at £99 – which works at just £8.25 per home game.

“Whether you’re playing for Southern Knights, Dunfermline, Dundee or Corstorphine Cougars, we want to welcome you in your numbers for what is set to be another massive season in the capital.”

Edinburgh are currently without a head coach after Mike Blair opted to step down from that role in February. Steve Diamond is taking charge of pre-season as ‘lead rugby consultant’ while the recruitment process for permanent appointment takes place.

However, several key squad members have recommitted to the club in recent months while Scotland hooker Ewan Ashman, Scotland scrum-half Scott Steele, Scotland stand-off Ben Healy, Scotland tight-head Javan Sebastian and former Scotland Under-20s flanker Tom Dodd have been recruited for next season.

    • Yes, and the SRU are pressurising fans to sign up for season tickets without knowing who has been chosen to change Edinburgh’s fortunes. They have known the situation since February and surely have been recruiting since then.

Maybe they are delaying an announcement for confidentiality reasons; or afraid of poor ticket sales if the choice is an uninspiring one; or are they delaying the appointment with an early exit from the World Cup at the back of their minds and minimising thecompensation hit, should Townsend be relieved of his Scotland position ?

  1. A great (and in hindsight, fairly obvious) initiative. Well done, SRU. Three cheers for the Dodsmeister. Now get some Friday night games at both ends of the M8 so people can play as well as watch.

  2. Laudable initiative. Very well done.

There are other groups who actually enable matches to be played like club officials and refs. What about them?

    • Dom – would be disappointing if referees and other match officials aren’t included

      • Would like to think so but the wording is very specific “ available to all active registered rugby players for season 2023-24) on Scottish Rugby’s ‘SCRUMS’ database”
