DUNCAN Weir will make his first appearance in five years for Glasgow tomorrow when he takes the field for the Scotstoun friendly against Newcastle Falcons. The stand-off – back with the Warriors after spells with Edinburgh and Worcester – is part of a 29-man squad for the game, which will see spectators back at Scotstoun for the first time in 19 months.
Weir is one of four summer signings in Danny Wilson‘s starting line-up, the others being forwards Murray McCallum and Lewis Bean, and centre Sione Tuipolutu. The bench includes winger Logan Trotter, called up from Stirling County after some impressive displays in Super6, and former Warriors prop George Thornton, who has been drafted back from the Ayrshire Bulls.
“Tomorrow gives us the first opportunity to give our guys meaningful game time and to test out a number of combinations ahead of the start of the new season,” head coach Wilson said. “We’ve named a blended squad which will offer us the chance to see a variety of players including a number of our new signings, academy players and some Super6 talent. We’re looking forward to welcoming fans back to Scotstoun and the challenge that Newcastle will bring tomorrow evening.”
