HOOKER David Cherry has become the latest player to commit his future to Edinburgh, agreeing a new deal for an unspecified period. The 29-year-old joined the capital club from Stade Nicois in 2018, having begun his senior career with Currie.

“It’s always been my goal to play at the top level of rugby and with Edinburgh I believe I can achieve that through continuing to improve in an environment which is unparalleled in its work ethic,” Cherry was quoted as saying in a press release from Edinburgh. “We have a really strong playing group here and we’re all pulling in the right direction. It’s a great a team culture to be a part of and I’m looking forward to continuing to pull on the jersey in the seasons to come.”

Cherry moved south from Currie to London Scottish in 2014, then headed to Nice three years later as part of the SRU’s partnership with that club. He initially returned to Edinburgh on a one-year deal but has since become a valuable squad member.

Richard Cockerill, the head coach, added: “Dave is a good man who brings a lot to a really strong position group. He works hard every day and has improved his game during his time at the club. We’re looking forward to seeing him develop further with this squad and we’re delighted that he’s today re-signed.”
