DAVE RENNIE had been confirmed as the next head coach of the Australia rugby team and will take over the job when his current Glasgow Warriors contract runs out in the summer. His replacement at Warriors has already been appointed and is expected to be announced tomorrow [Wednesday] morning.
Current Scotland assistant (forwards) coach Danny Wilson appears to be the front-runner for the Warriors job, although Mike Blair – another assistant for the national team, who previously worked with Glasgow – would be a more popular choice if the SRU opt to go for an internal candidate.
Rennie has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Wallabies which will take him through next World Cup, and he will link up with the team ahead of their summer schedule of two Test matches against Ireland and one against Fiji. Under the new global calendar, the July Tests will run straight into the 2020 Rugby Championship, where Australia will face World Cup winners South Africa, New Zealand and Argentina.
