BOROUGHMUIR are running coaching clinics on Wednesday and Thursday evenings this week which will offer young players an opportunity to train under former All Black playmaker Luke McAlister and former England winger Tom Varndell, the second top try-scorer in Premiership history.
“They’re on a global tour, so they’ve been travelling round South Africa, Italy, France, America, New Zealand and we’ve invited them to Meggetland because it is a great opportunity for kids in the city to learn from some guys who have achieved great things in the game,” explained Alex Toolis, the former Edinburgh second-row who is now Boroughmuir’s Academy and Performance Manager.
“This isn’t just for Boroughmuir kids but anyone who wants to come along and get a different rugby experience from two guys who have a huge amount of experience playing at the highest level,” Toolis added. “We’re running a series of clinics for boys and girls of all levels of experience. Over the two days, there are under-13 and under-14 slots from 5pm to 6.15pm, then under-15 and under-16 slots from 6.30pm to 7.45pm, and under-17 and under-18 slots from 8pm to 9.15pm.
“Hopefully we create some buzz around the club and Scottish rugby in general. It’s the start of summer, exams are over and its going to be a lot of fun as well as helpful to aspiring rugby players.”

Super6 Sprint: Jerry Blyth-Lafferty double sets up Boroughmuir Bears win over Southern Knights
I think the word “legends” is rather over used here!
Clicked thru – kids coaching seems to be quite lucrative:
“LIMITED TO 45 PLAYERS PER AGE GROUP”
so 45 players x 3 groups x £30/head for each 75min session.
Potentially £4,050 income per evening (about £1,000 per hour).
