ANGUS FRASER has become the second emerging hooker to sign a new deal with Glasgow Warriors after putting pen to paper on a two contract extension.

Of the other hookers in the Warriors squad, Johnny Matthews signed up until the summer of 2026 last month,  George Turner signed a deal for an undisclosed period if time in April 2022 and the currently injured Fraser Brown has not played since signing his one-year contract extension at the end of last season.

Fraser, who is now 24-years-old, made his debut in a Challenge Cup victory away to Bath in December 2022, and marked his first professional start in style when crossing for the bonus-point try in a 43-25 victory over Leinster at Scotstoun in round one of the 2023-24 URC season. He went on to win the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award for October 2023.

A former recipient of the Macphail Scholarship – spending a year at Stellenbosch University in South Africa to further his rugby development – the former Dundee Eagles player has also represented Scotland at both U18 and U20 level, as well as turning out for Stirling Wolves in the Super Series.

“I love this club and the opportunities for development I’ve had here have been brilliant,” said Fraser. “To have the chance to keep developing under Franco Smith and the coaches here is exactly what I feel like I need at this stage in my career.

“Being in the squad here, you learn so much from those around you. We’ve got a superb group of hookers here, and to have the chance to come in and learn from a pack full of international-calibre players is priceless for me.

“I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had to get out and get stuck in on game day, too, and I just want to keep putting my hand up for selection. I’m loving my rugby right now and I just want to keep on developing.”

Head coach Smith added: “We’re excited to continue to work with Angus, as we continue to help him develop into the best version of himself on and off the field.

“He has performed well each time he has been selected, and works closely with both his team-mates and coaches to seek to improve in all aspects of his game.

“We know how proud Angus is to represent this club and we look forward to seeing him add to his tally of appearances across the next couple of seasons.”

  1. Not seen much of Fraser so can’t comment on his darts but poor throwing in is a theme that has run through almost all Scottish hookers of recent vintage. Personally I think its because too many of them are backrowers who are converted in their early 20s.

    • Ha ha brilliant! So these players did nothing before joining Super Six to play a handful of games in their ever changing competitions then?

  2. Well done Angus, hugely deserved.

Hooker position is looking very bright, 3 young emerging homegrown talents (Hiddleston, Fraser and Harrison who needs to more gametime)

Part of his was development was at Stirling Wolves you say? Interesting.
