GLASGOW WARRIORS prop Alex Allan has joined the Scotland squad for this month’s 2016 Autumn Tests as precautionary injury cover.

The 24-year-old joined the squad at Oriam – Scotland’s sports performance centre – this [Wednesday] morning as cover for fellow looseheads Alasdair Dickinson and Gordon Reid, who continue their rehabilitation from their respective hamstring and back injuries.

The former Edinburgh Accies man and Macphail Scholarship recipient was once on the books at Edinburgh Rugby as an elite development player.

He relocated to the Warriors in time for the 2014/15 season and made his Scotland debut as a second-half substitute for Reid in the opening 24-6 win against the USA on the 2014 summer tour.

He has since made 33 outings for the Scotstoun club, scoring two tries, the second of which was a memorable 22-metre step and sprint across the whitewash to help secure his club’s Guinness PRO12 away win over Dragons in September.

The Scots will face Australia in the first match of their three Test Autumn series on Saturday 12 November. It will be their first meeting with the Wallabies since the controversial  35-34 Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat at Twickenham this time last year

Next up will be World Cup semi-finalists Argentina on Saturday 19 November, before the Scots complete the sequence with an historic Test against Georgia on Saturday 26 November, at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, the first Test between the two nations on Scottish soil.
