- Veni, Vidi, Vici – Melrose firmly substantiated their championship credentials at Millbrae. Stardust all over the park – and well coached, too. Who is next?
- It was hard work for Currie Chieftains at Meggetland but they dug in and scraped home. They do now know, however, that it is a tough old world out there. Resilience!
- Penalties kill! Take your points when you can! Eleven points up against Heriot’s, Glasgow Hawks failed to screw the coffin lid down – and broke two of rugby’s fundamental old school aphorisms in the process.
- Disappointment for Stirling County at Myreside. They started the season well – and looked very good on paper – but were lackadaisical on the day.
- Heriot’s blew the Hawks’ house down and snaffled the Bill McLaren Shield in a topsy-turvy contest at Scotstoun – a try scoring return from skipper Rory Carmichael – and a voracious display from openside flanker Jack McLean.
- A bad hair day for Ayr as Melrose pushed them down to seventh spot in the premiership table – incongruously below their noisy Ayrshire neighbours.
- Well done Watsonians! They needed a result against Stirling – and they grabbed it – with both hands. A good solid all-round performance which they will hope augurs well for the season ahead.
- Boroughmuir fell just short again versus Currie – but when you come off your bike you need to climb straight back onto it – and find the means of converting undoubted potential into point winning substance.
