THE second-leg of this season’s 1872 Cup will be played at Murrayfield on the final weekend of the URC season – 21st to 23rd May – with the Edinburgh versus Leinster and Glasgow Warriors versus Munster matches which were originally scheduled in that slot being brought forward to February 11th.
However, it has not been possible to reschedule the first leg to a date outside the Six Nations window, so that game will now be played at Scotstoun on Friday 18th March, the night before Scotland’s final match of the championship against Ireland in Dublin.
The rescheduling was necessary because both Scottish derbies and the Irish derby between Leinster and Munster all had to be postponed from their usual festive slots due to Covid.

“This is an innovative solution to help keep two derby matches outside of the Six Nations window and it is a great credit to all of the teams and broadcasters involved for their willingness to work with us in this situation,” said David Jordan, Tournament Director of the United Rugby Championship.
“In these circumstances we hope that the fans of these teams will look forward to the derby games in Round 18 where so much will be at stake ahead of URC Quarter-finals. Of course, given the number of URC teams involved in EPCR knock-out fixtures it has not been possible to keep all of our derby games out of the Six Nations window, but as we continue to reschedule matches we hope to have another positive update shortly.”

Real shame about the 6N clash, but infinitely better than a 28-0 walkover
